Ensuring
continuous performance of databases is not easy, but is essential
in environments where critical business processes are involved.
You need a performance management solution that lets you completely
understand current performance levels and that allows you
to proactively recognize emerging problems before they can
degrade application performance.
Service
Manager Expands the Power of the dbAppliance
Service Manager is a dbAppliance component option for managing
application and database service levels. The Service Manager
software is installed on any server platform that has network
connectivity with the dbAppliance. Service Manager is written
in Java for maximum platform portability and generates no
additional database or application server overhead. Configuration
and control of Service Manager is performed entirely using
Teraview, the dbAppliance user interface.
Continuous, Real-Time Performance
Alerting
The monitoring functions of the dbAppliance collect and analyze
an extensive set of application and database performance data.
This data includes response times (broken down into server
and client components), user activity, data volume, session
accounting, query statement tracking, and table and column
access statistics. Service Manager allows thresholds for these
parameters to be configured, and various types of alerts to
be sent if a threshold is breached during operation. Like
other dbAppliance components, Service Manager does not use
server agents or any other type of database or application
server software. This allows continuous, real-time monitoring
and alerting with no additional overhead to critical infrastructure
components.
